Ala’s Book.

I went to the Center for the Book tonight for Ala Ebtekar’s launch party.
I’ve mentioned him in a post a while back.
Each year the Center picks someone in the Bay area for their artist in residence program which offers the artist technical and studio support to create an editioned artist’s book.
2008 was Ala’s year.
Ala’s book was a response to a poem by the renowned Iranian poet and scholar H. E. Sayeh. The Farsi and English texts reads in opposite directions across a 7-panel accordion structure. Three layers of letterpress-printed paper creates a continuous loop of overlapping text and imagery. The book was really well done.
Glad I got out tonight to check out Ala’s work, was lucky enough to chat with him as well, super nice guy.
Also if you have some extra cash around you can purchase his book here. The edition consists of only 30 signed and numbered copies.
Here’s some of his other work, you can check out more on his site.

These shoes are hot.
