I always look forward getting up early, meeting some friends and watching these World Cup matches. I just got back from watching the Uruguay/Mexico match with my friend Esperanza. There’s been some great matches and upsets already this year.

Every 4 years I always ask “Why isn’t the Mothaship representin?”

In ‘06 when I was living back in NYC  I did some research and found out that the Indian team actually qualified once in 1950. Even though they qualified by default as a result of the withdrawal of all of their scheduled opponents, they must of been ecstatic.

The funny thing is that the Indian team was accustomed to playing barefoot, and according to the FIFA rules every player was required to wear shoes to walk on the field. The team turned down the offer and headed back to the mothership.

According to Wikipedia, this is a myth, but I’m not sure if that’s completely true cause it’s on the FIFA website. Hmm, not sure.

Here’s the poster from that year, yep no Indian flag….but the shoe is definitely reprezentin.

I couldn’t find a picture of the Indian team from 1950, but I did find these shoeless pictures from 1908 and 1911. They are from the Mohun Bagan Athletic Club in Calcutta, which is one of the oldest football clubs in Asia.

At least now the team invested in some shoes/slippers. 2014???

Haha, check it out yo, we got these Kashmiri peeps from the disputed territories optin for the guitar in lieu of a gat, so u best respect that. Big time *PMH supporters + brothers + our general homeboys, Din and Mo–on the wocals and drums–are gettin the rest of their bandmates (Greg & Paolo) together to throw it down in NYC once again.

Don’t know about these dudes? They been hustlin for a minute now, been doin some big things as of late: they recently toured in Morocco, just had some beats featured in the 2009 Oscar-nominated flick ”The Messenger,” they’ve also been all over MTV… so yea, brown people makin it happen yo.

These cats got a couple shows comin up, one happenin tonight in fact, Wednesday 4/28, at NYC’s Asia Society on the yuppie east side (it’s FREE). The event is called:

Making a Difference through the Arts - ZeroBridge - Kashmiri-American rock band and others

Homeboys also got a huge gig at Santos Party House in NYC, Saturday June 5th at 8PM, and they’re also gonna be kickin it with Mos Def in Chi-town Saturday, June 19th at the “Takin it to the streets” festival (Mos Def, Brother Ali, Tinariwen too). Make sure you check ‘em if you’re in the hood.
