My friend Jay just got his Green Card last week after being in the US for around 9 years working at MH, yep nine!

But checkout this article in the NY Times that came out this weekend.
The military just started a new program that will let immigrants, that have lived in the US for at least 2 years, join the military and get a chance to become a United States citizen in as little as six months after they start their service. That’s right 6 months.

The program targets two groups, which include medical professionals and those who  speak one or more of 35 languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Igbo (a tongue spoken in Nigeria), Kurdish, Nepalese, Pashto, Russian and Tamil.

I wish they started this program sooner, I would of sent both Jay (if he brushed up his Hindi) and my brother Philipp to Afghanistan.

- Military figures show that only 82 percent of about 80,000 Army recruits last year had high school diplomas.

- The Army provided waivers to 18 percent of active-duty recruits in the final four months of last year, allowing them to enlist despite medical conditions or criminal records
