Project?!

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Last Friday I mentioned a new project I’ve been working on, primarily with Jon (da Junk Man). I thought I was gonna be done with it by this week, but things got busy around here, so I had to push the project back. It should be all done by the end of next week.

Here are a couple shots of what we’ve have so far from the past couple weeks. More on the project next week for sure, so stay tuned!

Your man Unibrow’s been takin some classes these days, you know, tryin to smarten my ass up a bit.  The classes take place at a certain high school in NYC (ain’t tryna get sued here) near Grand Central, as part of a collabo with a certain “New York university” here in NYC. So one night your man Unibrow was takin a look around the school and saw some pics of the students and noticed that the school’s got a significant population of kids from a particular ethnic/racial background.

Imagine my surprised ass when I was walkin through the hallway to see this big ass poster with an important message, reminding the students to:

nword

Yo, I’m sure this is a regular thing in most city schools but damn, shit was mad crazy. My memories of elementary school were about some milk cartons and some fuckin crayola crayon shit. These kids walk through metal detectors every day on their way to class, and gotta keep an eye out for other kids gettin ready to shank ’em in the hallway. Just say no to the n-word dawg, or else some 12 year old with a machete gonna show u his cuttin skills.

Aight, on a whole ‘nother tip, Unibrow was scopin the scene at the Asia Pacific-American Heritage Festival in Union Square yesterday afternoon and came across two brown chicks hustlin tees and hoodies that have some dope artwork, straight out the mothership.

Closeknit

Sangeetha Kowsik of Closeknit, and her homegirl Fatima were out there in the blazin heat, tryin to stack the paper. After we had a few minutes to chat, Fatima quickly came to the realization that Unibrow’s demanding taste and style were in need of somethin fulfilling, somethin real fresh, and most of all, somethin so gangsta ghetto only Unibrow could rock it to the maximum effect.

Feast your eyes on this genius shit right here:

 Shahrukh

Now, this shit right here was real. The one I saw was on a white hoodie and looked pretty dope. Not gonna lie, the type treatment was kinda whatever, but that graphic on the back, damn yo, I had to have it–Shahrukh is straight up for the status seekers, and Unibrow don’t play–I’m wearin my Louis Vuitton suit and gloves as I type this shit up.

Anyway, I was gonna walk away with it, but my ass was sweatin harder than grimey Akshay Kumar in a fake ass bollywood sex scene. Oh, you don’t know Akshay???

Akshay

Now u do… btw, jacked this hilarious pic from the homegirl at American Goulash

Check out Shahrukh and more of Closeknit’s hustle on the website.

Word up, Unibrow’s Gulfstream G550 is waitin at LGA, and that netjets per hour rate is mad expensive. PEACE.

Clients.

*PMH has always been funded by my full time job as a graphic designer working for various clients (You can find some of my client work over @ LifeHere). Design work gets super dull sometimes, it really depends on the project and client, but it’s always great to get client work that inspires you.

I’m working on 2 projects at the moment that do that very thing, one with Hewlett-Packard (we’ll talk about that later) and the other from the Montreal band Elephant Stone. After a couple listens to their new album (The Glass Box), it inspired me to step away from the screen and dust off my Holga. So I hopped on my bike, roamed the city and shot. I wasn’t sure what I was looking for in the beginning but after a couple days and a handful of rolls, I was set with the direction.

I’ll post up the final results this week, but here are a couple shots from the process….
